The Pronvincial Tribunal of Luanda, on 28 July 2009 sentaced Eugnio Mateus, a journalist with a weekly "O Pas" newspaper, to a suspended three month imprisonment for alledged abuse of the media. Charges against Mateus are linked to an opinion article he wrote two years ago concerning the bad use of uniform and the tendency for excessive use of alcohol by soldiers. TThe charges dates back to the time when Mateus used to work for a weekly A Captal newspaper. Meanwhile, according to the Director of A Capital newspaper, Tandala Francisco, the opinion article by Matues only expressed a reality open for all to see. He condemned the attitude of the Major General as an intimidation act and promotion of sensorship amongst the journalists. //End//
