Bulawayo– Journalists in Bulawayo have been urged to take initiatives in applying for national and international opportunities that will help them develop into journalists that have international recognition. This was said at a press club meeting last night. The meeting was meant to conscientise media personnel on opportunities of training and networking with other countries noting that very few journalists from Bulawayo have been able to get an opportunity to go outside the country.
– The nationwide strike which took effect on Friday has spread to Bulawayo after an ultimatum which was reached yesterday by civil servants to join the rest of the country in the strike. In a snap survey carried out by the Daily Agenda this morning in most schools most teachers said that they will not be going back to schools until their grievances are resolved. Pupils in government and public schools could also be seen playing in sports grounds long after the school starting time giving the impression that teachers were not at school. Some pupils and parents were however not aware of the strike as they were accompanying their children to school.
– Deputy Prime Minister, Thokozani Khupe has urged Zimbabweans to be committed to the success of the Inclusive Government as it will yield a way forward to the removal of sanctions. She said Zimbabweans have no power to tell other countries about what to do or to remove sanctions, showing dedication to resolving issues as a one people.
Harare – Global Political Agreement talks resumed at an undisclosed location last night against the Zanu PF politburo decision to maintain their position on the lifting of sanctions. In an interview with the media, Zanu PF negotiator Patrick Chinamasa said that sanctions should be lifted, arguing that the MDC has failed to call for the lifting of sanctions. The talks resumed with negotiators from South African sent by President Jacob Zuma. The MDC last week released a statement complaining on the lack of seriousness from Zanu PF. As the first year of the inclusive government approaches the government of National Unity has been plagued with problems which have also seen civil servants embarking on a nationwide strike likely to cripple the operations of the country.
Gwanda – The police officers that were involved in the widespread robberies that hit Gwanda Town have appeared in Court and were remanded in custody. In another incident, two police officers killed a prison officer at a local bar and were arrested.
