According to the Botswana Government Gazette for February, Botswana Telecoms Corporation has agreed to provide Powertel with bandwith capacity for two years. This development has already seen the fibre optic connections made at Ramokgwebana border-post in December last year. Fibre Optic cables are a special communication module used to carry data and information and widely used by internet service providers and telecommunications system.
BTC has committed P504 million (about R600million) to secure reliable bandwith connection from undersea fibre optic through West African Cable Systems (WACS). Powertel is Zimbabwe’s electricity power company under the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).



GABORONE The Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has clinched a US$5 million deal with Zimbabwe's Powertel aimed at boosting communication network between the two neighbouring countries.
