Tuku to grace Chimanimani arts festival

Musician Andy Brown, who has been out of the limelight of late, will support the two popular musicians. Brown who rocked the airwaves during the late 1980s has is believed to be struggling in the music scene because of his alignment to Zanu (PF). Steve Brown and Bengt Post formally established the popular festival in 1999 in a bid to showcase productions of the various mainline arts genres. The festival was also meant to provide entertainment for Manicaland province and Chimanimani district in particular.

Tuku who has penned and released more than 57 albums, is currently riding high on success with his latest release called Dairai. He is coming to the festival soon after his sold out shows in the United Kingdom and South Africa in the recent weeks.

Chimbetu, popularly known as Sulu, by his legion of fans in the music circles, recently won the outstanding musician award at the just ended National Arts and Merit Awards in Harare and is also expected to take the fans at the festival on his usually exciting Dendera music journey.

Taka Muparutsa, the spokesperson of Chimanimani Arts Festival said: Several musicians have already confirmed their participation. This year the programme includes a variety of well known Zimbabwean artists, as well as a healthy representation of theatre, poetry, dance and acrobatics.

An international dimension has been added to the event, with the participation of Pa lo Qsea, a troupe of artistes from Spain, he said.

Last years edition saw artists like Nicholas Zakaria, Dudu Manhenga, Dino Mudondo and Steve Makoni thrilling revellers.
