Bafana tackle Europe and South America

bafana_bafana2JOHANNESBURG - As preparations for the FIFA World Cup South Africa intensify, hosts Bafana Bafana have arranged international friendly matches against European and South American opposition.

South African football Association chief executive officer, Leslie Sedibe, told The Zimbabwean that Carlos Alberto Parreira’s men will take on Bulgaria, Columbia and Denmark ahead of the historic tournament.

The matches are scheduled for May 24 at Soccer City in Johannesburg, May 27 at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town and June 5 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria respectively.

Critically, the final Bafana Bafana squad will be represented at the Denmark game.

Sedibe said preparations for the matches and the tournament were on course.

“We have been fortunate enough to gather a strong support team around the coach and with Ephraim Nematswerani joining us last week as team doctor, I can assure you that the boys are in very good hands with respect to every minute and aspect of their preparation. As for the squad itself, I have to say I am hugely impressed with just how focused and disciplined the team is. Their days are filled with activities on the training ground, in the gym and team discussions, said Sedibe at the weekend in Johannesburg.

He said Pareirra would announce this final group of 23 men to take the nation to the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Monday May 31.
