The youthful dance outfit beat nine other dance groups in a scintillating showcase and will dance all the way to BOTY AFRICA set for Rabat, Morocco. This years event, which was the second in the country, drew participation from Harare and Bulawayo. Competition was very stiff in the fete bringing together new and old school hip hop dance. A novel assemblage High Definition dance group emerged victors in the new school category securing a ticket for South Africas Masters of the Rhythm competitions end of August. The group comprising Basil (Dragon) Chirengendure, T.K, and Tendai Guzha displayed unparalleled excellence on the dance floor through their breath taking popping and locking movement.

Efforts are in full swing to source funding for the Morocco bid. In Morocco team Zimbabwe will battle against South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia and the hosts for a ticket to represent Africa at the international platform on 22 October in Montpellier, France. Flip Floppers is made up of Fidelis Burawa, Colenson Kwapesa, Paul Gwandu and Tatenda Nyamangara, and was founded five years ago by a group of secondary school students driven by their undying love for the dance floor. This has seen them attaining platinum status in the country and beyond. They primarily focus on B-boying, an acrobatic element of Hip Hop dance that allows a dancer to freely express oneself through various well coordinated moves.

Since commencement in Zimbabwe, the Battle of the Year has created a frenzy of excitement within the hip hop dance community arousing formation of numerous crews. It is hoped that such platforms would help enhance youth and cultural development in the wake of rampant alcohol and drug abuse in the face of unemployment and HIV/Aids.

This years episode was made possible through support from Net*One, Zelco, RTG, Firstel, Edgars and Delta beverages and will return next year with great enthusiasm and excitement under management from Jibilika Dance Trust, the Zimbabwe license holder.
