Remember the hero’s child

Do you remember the heros child When you celebrate heroes day And I commemorate the death of a parent?
You ululate and deliver speeches of solidarity Celebrating 30 years of self-governance.

Lamenting three decades of neglect, I ask myself what was chimurenga about?

You drink and gormandise In tribute to fallen heroes

I, like a giant species of rodent,

rummage garbage to appease politics of the stomach

Battling for supremacy with other rodents

I sacrifice dignity for survival

You cruise from conference to conference

Discussing fat reports on my plight

I in hopeless hope roam

Calling no place my home

You set up a ministry to address my needs

The ministry of youth development, indigenisation and employment creation

And disillusionment is all you have developed

In my undeveloped world

Without capital to invest, you urge me be self-employed

You know all that I need

Education, health and shelter

Yet still I have none

Remember the needs

Of the known and unknown children

Of the known and unknown heroes

When you, with expensive flowers,

Adorn the tomb of the unknown soldiers – our parents

On August 10
