Sending money home

mukuru_com.jpegIf you are a Zimbabwean travelling to Johannesburg or Pretoria to complete your regularisation registration in South Africa, its worth noting that you should also sign up with Mukuru.com/Inter Africa while youre at it. This initiative is started by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans, and the response has been truly incredible, says Rob Burrell, director of Mukur

Until we started this service a few months ago in SA, people had to send money via the minibuses

which could cost as high as 20%, if your money ever arrived.

Now, partnering with local agent Inter Africa, registration branches are all over the country, including Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

Having signed up, a customer can choose whether to return to any branch to send money home, or

merely call up the sales team (+27 (0) 21 300 1959) to create an order over the phone, and pay at

the nearest First National Bank nationwide.

Many customers will travel to register and create their first order in-store, says Andre Ferreira coordinator of Inter Africas branch network, but then we encourage them to use the more convenient method of calling us up for the second transaction and settling via FNB bank deposit.

Whats more, in the world of cell phone banking and mobile money, the team have responded with a mobile menu for registered customers to create their orders themselves.

Its pretty amazing, says Burrell, Once youre signed up, just dial *120*494*120# from your SA handset, and follow the menu instructions to send money home then just walk into your nearest FNB and pay for your order.

On the Zimbabwean side, an SMS is sent to your relative instantly, who can walk into their nearest CBZ bank branch to pickup the funds.

So, if you happen to be grabbing all your paperwork and making a pilgrimage to an embassy in Pretoria or Johannesburg anytime soon, then do yourself a favour and register at an InterAfrica branch.

Readers of The Zimbabwean can even claim a signup discount quote the promo code THEZIM, when you register and youll save money when you send funds home.

You will need identification, proof of employment/ income and proof of residence in order to register.
