MDC member received head injuries

mdc_logoAn MDC member, Vusumuzi Mkwananzi received head injuries after he was heavily assaulted by Chief Chiweshe on Monday in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central province.

Mkwananzi, 31, of Ethel Grange farm was shocked yesterday when he found the chiefs workers ploughing his field using tractors. He went to the chiefs homestead to enquire about this, but the chief whose real name is Joseph Chigariri was rude and vulgar and attempted to run Mkwananzi with his truck. He however managed to escape.

Mkwananzi, who is now receiving medical treatment in Harare, said the chief later called his aides who pinned him to the ground while the chief assaulted him. He reported the matter to Mvurwi Police Station and police docket, No. 401110 was opened against the chief.

Meanwhile, hundreds of MDC supporters, relatives and friends attended the burial of the MDC Manicaland provincial committee member, Elizabeth Murenje at Yeovil cemetery in Mutare on Sunday. Murenje died last week at St Josephs Hospital in Mutare after a short illness. She is survived by a husband and three children. Speaker after speaker described the late Murenje as person who was determined by all means to see a new and democratic Zimbabwe.

Musikavanhu MP and the MDC Manicaland provincial secretary, Hon. Prosper Mutseyami said her death would not deter the MDC from delivering real change, democracy, hope, security, freedom and prosperity to the people of Zimbabwe. The burial was attended by several senior MDC provincial officials, MPs and councillors who included, Hon. Pishai Muchauraya, the MP for Makoni South and Julius Magarangoma.
