THE DAILY AGENDA: 19 January 2011

Lupane- There is a fierce chieftainship wrangle in Lupane. Reports are that two people are feuding for the Mabhikwa chieftainship. One of the claimants to the traditional leadership post is reportedly a staunch ZANU PF cadre. However, yesterday (18 January 2010) the two were summoned to Jotsholo where village heads and headmen voted for their preferred chief.

The ZANU PF cadre is reported to have been beaten hands down by the apolitical claimant. This has led to mutiny in the district. This wrangle is not rare as most Zanu Pf members close to any chieftaincy always try to use their political affiliation to be appointed Chief using the back door.

Gweru- Imot etshontsh imali is causing unrest to commuters as they are mounting roadblocks in every entrance of the town. This has led to route diversions with some entering the city centre via the cemeteries. Police are allegedly demanding US$20 from the kombi drivers. The same thing happened in Bulawayo last week ending with an undeclared war between kombi crews and traffic police.
