History bears testimony to many a dictator who in their delusional self-aggrandizement projects, sort to amass wealth at the expense of ordinary people, suppressing any dissent and stashing wealth in offshore accounts. Current attempts are being made by the Swiss government to legislate that any such wealth from political leaders should first be proven to be clean before being allowed into the Swiss economy. Jean-Claude Duvalier Baby Doc of Haiti, Mobutu Sese Seko of the Congo, Pinochet from Chile, Thaksin Sinawatra from Thailand, the recently toppled Mubarak of Egypt and Ben- Ali of Tunisia stand as examples of what happens when this kind of greed goes unchecked.
The continued use of the well-oiled propaganda machine in Zimbabwe through which the Zanu (PF) regime attempts to justify the continued collapse of Zimbabwes political and social structures, is fed by sycophantic messengers who see and hear nothing wrong with the current polarized state of the nation. Unabated violence, intimidation and harassment of those in opposition is dismissed on each occasion with typical contempt. These song writers and singers of praise are feeding off the crumbs from the Zanu (PF) table and have no principles.
The most recent revelations of the staggering wealth amassed by Ignatius Chombo, is an eye opener on the extent to which Zanu (PF) elites within this regime continue to personalize and mortgage the country at the expense of the very principles which the masses fought for during the 70s. In their state of panic and paranoia, the Mugabe regime is hanging on to power and suppressing any opposition or attempts for change.
This demise and lack of principles within Zanu (PF) and the Mugabe regime is unfortunately creeping into social and economic institutions where the spirit of Ubuntu is fast disappearing.
Principals within the Zanu (PF) regime consider themselves indispensible political furniture solely entrusted with the monopoly of solving Zimbabwes problems, preferring to hang onto the status quo. Clearly the nation state finds itself being run by, and for, principals who have deluded themselves into believing that they are political idols yet negating and denying an opportunity to ordinary Zimbabweans to enjoy life in its abundance. There are the very principles these political elites are meant to value and promote.
