Supported by the Swedish Arts Council, Kudzai Chimbaira and Per Gottfredsson (an improvisation theatre guru in Sweden who runs Stockholms Improvisationsteater), in collaboration with Theory X Media, will lead advanced readings of some acclaimed Swedish plays by August Strindberg, Sofia Fredn and Henning Mankell. During the workshops, running until May 13, scenes from the plays will be adapted to a local context.

A work in progress showcase will be held at Theatre in the Park at 5.30 pm on Saturday 14 and Sunday15 May. The showcase is open to the general public. One play will be selected and produced in Harare, drawing on cast from the workshops.

Kudzai Chimbaira had this to say about why she brought this workshop to Zimbabwe, Being a Zimbabwean living abroad, this workshop is my way of keeping in touch with my theatre colleagues and imparting the diverse knowledge I have gathered ever since I relocated to Sweden. Of course, we have rich local plays, but there is a great need for actors to be exposed to regional and international plays. With this exposure there is always the possibility of adapting foreign plays into a Zimbabwean context because most stories are universal.
