Chokudas murder case resumed

mdc_symbolIn Midlands North, the late Moses Chokudas murder case resumed in court last week but was further deferred to 21 June 2011 by a Gokwe magistrate two years after the atrocity was committed.

The late Chokuda is yet to be buried, more than 2 years after his murder. The father of the deceased, Tavengwa Chokuda, has written a petition to the Attorney General to seek justice and protection from the perpetrators who are now threatening him with unspecified action if he does not withdraw the case.

Chokuda was murdered by Farai Machaya, the son of the Midlands governor and Isaac Gana on 22 March 2009 at Masakadza business centre, 50km from Gokwe Centre. Gana is also the Zanu PF Gokwe district coordinating committee chairperson. He was 25 at the time of his murder. The deceaseds father, Tavengwa said there was no way the family could bury Moses until his murderers had apologised and explained their motive for killing his son.

Meanwhile, in Masvingo province, villagers have castigated Zanu PF for their violent behaviour as its members jostle for positions ahead of the expected national plebiscite, whose dates have not been announced. In Zaka and Bikita districts, Zanu PF activists have dragged villagers to meetings where they are lobbying for positions as councillors and MPs for the varied constituencies. Villagers feel this is a violation to their rights and freedoms of association and assembly as they are being forced to attend numerous meetings that do not add any value to their communities.
