Bangladesh unnerved ahead of Zim tour

Bangladesh said they were not taking any chances against underdogs Zimbabwe despite leaving out three of their most experienced players ahead of the tour of Harare.

The Asians announced a 15-man squad ahead of the tour of Zimbabwe where they will play the Test returnees in a series of Test and One Day Internationals (ODIs) early August.

Conspicuous with their absence from the squad are Roqibul Hassan and Alok Kapali or all-rounder Mohammad Sohrawadi who played against powerhouse Australia in Bangladesh's last ODI series in April.

Bangladesh have included uncapped batsmen Nasir Hossain and Shuvagoto Hom in the squad that will feature a Test and five One-Day Internationals. Shuvagoto was in the squad for the Australia series but did not play. Former skipper Mohammad Ashraful and batsman Junaed Siddique have returned to the side after missing out on the Australia series.

Pace bowler Robiul Islam, who was part of the squad in Bangladesh's last Test series against England in 2010 but had never been considered for ODIs, is also in the squad.

“We are confident the players selected from the team will do the job against Zimbabwe,” Bangladesh Cricket said ahead of the tour.

The tour marks Zimbabwe's return to Test cricket after five years of voluntary exile because of political problems in the Southern African country.

The Test will be held from 4-8 August in Harare, with the ODIs running from 12-21 August.

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have a long running rivalry. But Bangladesh have enjoyed the upper hand as Zimbabwe lost form following the quitting of experienced players over differences with Zimbabwe Cricket management.

A number of these have returned to the fold raising prospects of the team becoming world beaters again.

Bangladesh Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Tamim Iqbal (vice-captain), Imrul Kayes, Zunaed Siddique, Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Shahriar Nafees, Robiul Islam, Shuvagoto Hom, Nasir Hossain.
