Trial date set for four Masvingo student activists.

Four Masvingo student activists appeared before a Masvingo magistrate this morning Wednesday the 10th of August. The four Zivanai Muzorodzi, Arnold Batirai, Brighton Ramusi and Gamuchirai Mukura are facing charges of malicious damage to property and attempted murder, these charges emanate from a demonstration on the decaying state of the education sector in the country on the 21st of July 2011. Today, regional magistrate Mupunguka has set trial for the case to the 24th of August 2011.

Meanwhile, Four NUST activists appeared today the 10th August before a Bulawayo Magistrate. The four, David Mushanawani, Beven Nyamande, Ernest Makoni and Duncan Mombeshora are facing charges of participating in an illegal gathering with the intentions of causing public violence following a demonstration against high tuition fees.

Trial date for these four activists has been postponed to the 6th of September, because there was no state witnesses.

The Students Solidarity Trust continues to advocate for the swift delivery of justice. Weak state cases have resulted in students being disturbed in their studies due to the sluggish nature in which the state is approaching the cases.
