Kaizer Chiefs coach, Vladimir Vermezovic, is banking on the international experience of the four Zimbabwean players in his team ahead of the MTN 8 final against cross-city rivals Orlando Pirates.

The two teams battle for one of South Africa’s premier cup competitions on the back of an impressive showing by the horde of Zimbabwean players that beat Liberia in Harare last weekend.

Vermezovic this week hailed the experience of the international players and welcomed their return to the team ahead of the eagerly-awaited clash against the defending champions at Soccer City on Saturday evening.

The match will be the first meeting between the two biggest clubs in South African football. If pre-season meetings between the two are anything to go by, Pirates have an edge over Chiefs having beaten them twice during the period.

The Buccaneers outclassed Chiefs 1-0 in the three-team Vodacom Challenge in July ahead of the Vodacom Challenge Final against visiting Tottenham Hotspur. A week later, they were too good for The Amakhosi again, winning the inaugural Carling Black Label Cup on penalties.

This weekend’s match at the 90 000-seater stadium that hosted the FIFA World Cup last year is expected to attract a capacity crowd and organizers are hopeful the game will live to its top billing.

“We are really pulling out all the stops to ensure that we have a magnificent and well coordinated final,” said Premier Soccer League chief executive, Zola Majavu, ahead of the meeting.
