34 of the South African medals were won in the swimming pool, five in the canoeing events, four in the triathlon and three in karate. The South Africans have taken 20 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals.
Placed second in the medal table is Tunisia, with 21 medals (nine in karate, nine in swimming and three in canoeing), followed by Algeria with 20 (11 in karate, seven in swimming, one in canoeing and one in volleyball).
