Sport to boost tourism

The Inbound Tour Operators Association of Zimbabwe president, Tich Mudzonga, said the tourism sector was set to record a 20 per cent boost in business due to the good publicity the country was receiving from the success of national sports teams.

“Sport excellence has helped us in a big way as it has put Zimbabwe back on the world map. We expect even a 20 per cent boost in the tourism sector,” he said.

The Mighty Warriors (national female soccer team) won the Confederation of Southern Africa Football Association tournament and is participating in the All Africa games in Mozambique.

The national cricket squad recently thrashed Bangladesh in its tests matches and golden girl, Kirsty Coventry, won three gold medals at the All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Mudzonga said it was against this background that the country had been enjoying positive media coverage globally which would in turn benefit the tourism sector.

Apart from tour operators, hotels, resorts, lodges and other services providers are recording brisk business countrywide.
