Bulawayo-based league debutants, Quelaton, were the first to fire their coach, but new gaffer, Phillani “Beefy” Ncube has so far failed to take them off the bottom of the log. FC
Platinum’s decision to replace
Warriors caretaker coach,
Rahman Gumbo with Tendai Chikuni is another case in point, while the exit of former Warriors coach, Misheck Chidzambwa from troubled Blue Rangers has not shown in Chris Donga’s taking over.
A few hours after Chidzambwa was sacked, Donga watched helplessly as his charges were walloped 6-0 by defending champions, Dynamos in the biggest defeat to be suffered by a PSL team this season. In the five matches that Ncube has been in charge at Quelaton, he has only managed to get one point out of the possible 15.
Tamirepi’s story is the same, the soft-spoken coach having been humiliated at home in his first match over the weekend, after falling 0-2 to a hapless Buffaloes side. Both goals came in the last 15 minutes of the match – a problem of lack of the same tactical discipline that management had accused Gumbo of failing to rein-in.
Though Chikuni has collected 4 points out of the possible 6 in two matches for at FC
Platinum, his performance is still not good enough ,considering the task Gumbo had been ordered to fulfil of amassing all points in the first five matches of the season.
In developed countries like England, coaches like Sir Alex Fergusson have been with clubs like Manchester United for decades, which gives them a chance to build their teams. Perhaps ZIFA should take a leaf from their book, or from Caps United, whose ongoing faith in Sean Connor is beginning to pay off.
