NAAZ director for development Enias Nhoro, revealed this week that they had started the preparations, adding that there was a lot of long and middle-distance runners who deserved a chance to make a name for themselves.
“There is a lot of talent lying idle in Gokwe, Muzarabani, Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe and Chipinge,” said Nhoro. “We need to find those athletes and give them the right coaching for the next Olympics.”
He revealed that they were sending coaches to identify talent in all rural areas, beginning with Matabeleland north and south.
The best Zimbabwe has done in the Olympic Games since 1980 was a fourth place finish for long jumper, Ngonidzashe Makusha, at the 2008 edition in China.
