Moyo was Mpofu’s campaign manager from 2005 when he was elected as the legislator for Umuguza. He defected to MDC-T during the party rally held at Tatezela in Bubi Matebeleland North on Saturday. The rally was addressed by Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe and MDC-T deputy Organizing secretary Abdnenico Bhebhe.
“I worked with Mpofu when he was first elected as an MP in 2005. I know that guy inside and out. There is no peace or harmony in Zanu (PF) .I have also decided to join the MDC after realizing Zanu (PF) has caused too much suffering among Zimbabweans. I think it is high time Zanu (PF) be stopped,” Moyo said.
He added that he would work hard to make sure that MDC-T retains two constituencies of Umuguza and Bubi which are under Zanu (PF) in Matabeleland North.
Zanu (PF) has three parliamentary seats in Matebeleland North: Umguza under Mpofu, Bubi under Clifford Sibanda and Nkayi South under Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Sithembiso Nyoni.
In welcoming Moyo to MDC-T Bhebhe said, “Moyo has made the right decision by joining MDC-T which he described as a party of excellence and admired by many”.
Moyo’s former boss Mpofu is believed to be one of the Zanu (PF) bigwigs looting Marange Diamond mines. Last week he came out boasting that he is was the “King of Matebeleland”.
