Best of the Best – Chidzambga

He is considered the country’s best coach, having taken Dynamos to their only African Champions League final so far in 1998 and the Zimbabwe Warriors to their maiden Afcon appearance at Egypt 2004. However, very few would lay claim to being as rock-solid in defence as the former Dynamos in his heydays. He also won numerous trophies with Dynamos.

My Best Club

I will obviously be biased towards Dynamos, a team that has a lot of history, has managed to dominate local football for years and is considered one of the best in Africa today. They also produced the likes of Moses “Razorman” Chunga, Vitalis “Digital” Takawira, and Tauya “Flying Doctor” Murehwa.

My Memorable Game

It was one of our home games against one of Africa’s football powerhouses, Shooting Stars of Nigeria in the African Champions League. We beat them 3-1, with Tauya Murehwa, Vitalis Takawira and Lloyd Mutasa having scored for us.

My Best Coach

There is none other than that great magician, Reinhardt Fabisch, who taught us the secret of football. I am lucky to have worked with him as his assistant because I leant a lot from him. He was the best tactician and most disciplined coach. We lost a gentleman and he is irreplaceable.

My Best Stadium

Gwanzura Stadium carries world-class facilities and I made many wonderful memories there.

My Best Defence Partners

Simom Mudzuzwa, Effort Lungu and my brother Misheck were yesteryear players that changed the rhythm of the game. We were untouchable and as solid as a rock.

My Best ever Zimbabwean players

William Sibanda (Zimbabwe Saints), George Shaya (Dynamos), Fredy Mukwesha (Dynamos) and Peter Ndlovu are my football heroes. They played a different style of football and each one brought something new to the game.

My Best Choice for Striker

Definitely Shackman Tauro, a complete striker who made his every game very enjoyable. He was very tough on the ball and remains one of the sharpest shooters we have ever seen.

My Best Warriors 11

Japhet M’parutsa, Danny Bricks, Oliver Kateya, Sunday Chidzambga, Shadreck Ngwenya, Moses Chunga, George Shaya, Jimmy Finch, Alois Nechikano, Freddy Mukwesha, Peter Ndlovu, with substitutes being Ernest Kamba, Bernad Mariot, Patrick Amato Jairus Ngumba, with the coach Shepherd Murape
