The body of Cain Nkala, who was a senior member of Zanu (PF), was discovered buried in a shallow grave on the farm, located near Solusi University, in 2001.
He had been abducted from his Magwegwe home in Bulawayo.
Nkala’s murder received much publicity, with several political opposition members being arrested and charged with his murder.
The former united MDC MP, Fletcher Dulini-Ncube, Sonny Masera, the former party Director of Security and party activists Army Zulu, Kethani Sibanda, Remember Moyo and Sazini Mpofu were reportedly tortured but the courts later cleared them due to lack of evidence.
There was speculation at that time that Nkala was murdered by his foes in Zanu (PF).
"We are shocked by the police behaviour. They cleared our meeting at Norwood Farm but we were surprised when armed officers from Plumtree Police Station descended on and disrupting it.
“Hundreds had already gathered for the rally which I was supposed to address. I think what is painful to Zanu (PF) is that this is a resettlement area which they regard as their stronghold (and they should therefore have caused the cancellation),” MDC-T Deputy Organising Secretary, Abedinico Bhebhe, told The Zimbabwean.
When contacted for a comment, Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Sergeant Loveness Mangena yesterday said she "was still to be informed about the cancellation of the MDC-T meeting".
