Seventeen MPs failed to make it as voters posted a ruthless verdict by showing them the exit door. They included Budiriro MP and minister of Science and Technology Development Heneri Dzinotyiwei, Former National Housing and Social Amenities Minister and Chitungwiza North legislator Fidelis Mhashu, Zengeza West MP Collin Gwiyo, Chitungwiza South MP Misheck Shoko, Highfield West MP Simon Hove, Goromonzi South MP Greenbate Dongo and Margaret Matienga from Sunningdale.
Lewis Joe said failure to be re-elected back into office was a reflection that the MPs had failed to deliver during their tenure of office. “Some of the MPs hardly brought any development to their constituencies during the five years in office. We cannot have the same system as Zanu (PF), where useless politicians are protected and voted for just because they are rich and are affiliated to the party’s leadership.” Aspiring Zvimba North legislator Abigail Sauti said the MPs lost because they had alienated themselves from the grassroots.
“A leadership position does not make you immune to public scrutiny. People want a servant of the people not a mini god. They lost touch with the grassroots so they were booted out,” said Sauti.
“We have a lot of young blood within the party ready for leadership positions. Some have lost because the electorate feels that they are old and need to rest. The electorate needs new blood at the helm of power for development,” said a supporter from Sunningdale, identified as Gwauya.
