Mugabe feeling the pressure

The continued attack on South African President Jacob Zuma’s International Relations Advisor, Lindiwe Zulu, by President Robert Mugabe shows how much pressure he is under, according to analysts.

Since the launch of his party’s manifesto a fortnight ago, Mugabe described Zulu as a “stupid idiotic woman” and a “little streetwalker” after her call for Zimbabwe’s elections to be delayed.

At a rally in Gweru over the weekend, Mugabe appealed to Zuma to rein in his international relations advisor.

“That persistent negative voice from South Africa…could it please be stopped. I appeal to President Zuma to stop this woman from speaking on Zimbabwe,” said Mugabe.

Political analyst, Ibbo Mandaza, said the attacks on Zulu show that Mugabe is under pressure to win the election.

Another analyst, Rejoice Ngwenya, said Mugabe did not have the courage to take Zuma head on and was focusing his anger on Zulu.

“He knows SADC is likely to give a negative comment in the unlikely event of Mugabe winning the elections,” she said.
