Coltart's campaign aide arrested

David Coltart’s campaign team coordinator recently spent two nights in police custody for allegedly pulling down President Robert Mugabe’s poster in Bulawayo.

Coltart is vying for the Bulawayo South seat in Wednesday’s general polls.

Coltart said Malthus Ncube, his distribution coordinator, was arrested on Wednesday evening and detained at Queens Park East Police Station and then Bulawayo Central Police Station for allegedly removing Mugabe’s poster in Woodville low density suburb.

Ncube was only released on Friday.

Coltart said the allegations against Ncube were baseless and accused police of being partisan against the MDC since the law enforcement agents are not arresting Zanu (PF) activists pulling down his posters in Bulawayo South.

“Why would he would bother taking down Mugabe posters, given that Zanu (PF) provides absolutely no threat to us in this constituency, is beyond logic. I should not be surprised because this is typical conduct of Zanu (PF).

“Even in this campaign I have had numerous posters removed entirely, some defaced or damaged but, of course, nothing is done to those criminals,” Coltart said.

The Education Minister added that the arrest of his campaign coordinator was an attempt to derail and collapse his campaigns to wrestle Bulawayo South from Tabitha Khumalo of the MDC T.

“Zanu (PF) knows they are in deep trouble and so they resort to their usual DNA. The purpose, clearly, is to disrupt my campaign. If there is any silver lining in all of this it is that Zanu (PF) clearly knows who their main opponent is in this constituency are.

“Let every person in Zimbabwe remember that. These outrageous acts of injustice will not go unpunished,” said Coltart.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), over 37 Zimbabweans have been arrested for pulling down or defacing campaign posters since campaigning started.
