Ward confusion frustrates voters

At Chigovanyika terminus, Ward 4 St Mary's constituency, at least nine people had been referred to their correct wards by 08:45 am. The presiding officer for the centre, Chrispen Chifamba, confirmed to The Zimbabwean that the challenge was that many people were not sure of where they were supposed to vote.

Kaliva Mukwezenji Siriwe: I have been to 5 wards since 7am – no-one can tell me where I can vote.

"Most people from ward 3 are coming here but we are referring them back to their correct ward," he said.

74-year-old, Kaliva Mukwezenji Siriwe was one of those told that she was not eligible to vote in this constituency.

"I have been to at least five wards since 7 am and none of them is telling me where i should go and vote. They are all telling me that I cannot vote but I registered," said a visibly disgruntled Siriwe.

Asked if she voted in previous elections, Siriwe said: "No. My identity document said I am an alien, but I have since rectified that. I do not know why I cannot vote."

By 8:20 am, at least four SADC observers had visted the centre, spending five minutes there.

There was a long winding queue and the pace was very slow especially when a voter's name could not be found in the manual voters' roll.
