PSL roundup with Brenna Matendere

The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League has been condemned for failure to release names of players suspended for the next fixtures on time.

Since the beginning of the season, the PSL has been releasing names of players on suspension way after teams would have gone into camp.

The anomaly has badly-affected plans of coaches who would have included some of those players in their final 18.

Coaches that spoke to The Zimbabwean this week also complained that the PSL sometimes failed to inform the clubs and only communicated to referees.

“This is regrettable. We have gone into matches where some of our key players were actually denied entry into the field of play on the actual day of the match due to the suspension. The PSL just communicates to the referees. On few occasions they have communicated to clubs, it would be very late, sometimes just a day before the match” said one coach.

In the build up to the week 7 of this season, the PSL is reported to have only released names of suspended players on a Friday, when teams had gone into camp for the weekend matches. That saw FC Platinum’s Gift Bello, ZPC Kariba’s Pride Tafirenyika and Hwange’s Aleck Marime being recalled from camp.

“The PSL is obviously well-resourced and do not have a reason to lag behind on such critical matters as suspensions of players,” said another coach.

Meanwhile, limelight this weekend will be on the reigning soccer star of the year, Tawanda Muparati, who returns to action after he missed Dynamos’ first nine matches due to injury.

Pressure will be mounting on the diminutive player when DeMbare host the unpredictable Triangle. Alongside former Caps United player, Clive Kawinga and Masimba Mambare, Muparati has not had substantial game time at DeMbare and may find it difficult to exhibit the terrific form that saw him crowned best player for last season.

Log leaders Highlanders are sweating over the availability of exciting midfielder Peter ‘Rio’ Moyo and forward Kuda Mahachi, both struggling with injury, as they host FC Platinum on Sunday, in a match that will also be televised by the pay as you view channel Supersport.

Log anchors Harare City host How Mine, while Black Rhinos will be home to Buffaloes. Chapungu – yet to taste defeat at home, clash with rejuvenated Caps United at Ascot stadium, while Shabanie Mine face-off with Chicken Inn. ZPC Kariba, still unbeaten in nine games, clash with Bantu Rovers.
