In the midst of her address they started streaming out of Mucheke stadium, the venue of her rally, in protest over her attack on some senior Zanu PF stalwarts. She also denounced the former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
“We started moving out of the stadium because she was now attacking people as well as denouncing the opposition when we thought she was going to talk of unemployment and ways of improving our tattered economy,”said Atinos Mutasa.
“We had waited for a long time to listen to her address and when she stood up we thought she was going to tackle the fundamentals of our ailing economy but to our surprise she just behaved like her husband who is known for attacking personalities instead of coming up with ways of fixing our economy,” said Mutasa.
A student at a local high school who also walked out on the president’s wife before she had finished her speech told The Zimbabwean that they were forced as students by their teachers to attend and therefore she was not even interested in Dr Mugabe’s speech.
“Our teachers forced us to attend so we just did that and when we realised that some people were streaming out we took advantage of that and also walked out,” she said.
Grace Mugabe took a swipe at some senior party members who fane factionalism and warned that they will soon be dumped.
“Remember you are appointed by the president and most of the time we see you coming to President Mugabe to take advice and if you do not listen you will regret next time,” she said.
“If you are rendered jobless you will be shocked and be warned you will be affected by stroke,” she added. “You have the tendency of buying people using cash to follow you but if you are rendered jobless where will you get the money from?” asked the first lady.
Earlier on Mugabe had told about 15 000 party supporters bussed from all corners of Masvingo province that as a women she will take on the baton because her husband and the people mentored her.
“We can take over these senior positions because as women we are many,” she said. “I heard some of you saying that they used to see me with my husband yes but remember those days I was just quiet because I was learning the ropes like a child,”she said.
“Now I am old enough and my power lies in you and the president and therefore I am not ashamed to take any position of leadership,” said Mugabe.
