The University of Zimbabwe professor and the National Constitutional Assembly Party interim leader told a recent SAPES panel discussion that the minister had ill-gotten wealth to protect, hence their desperate support for Grace.
He said President Robert Mugabe had helped them amass their wealth through looting and other corrupt means, hence their allegiance to Grace, who was now the de facto president of Zimbabwe.
Charles Mangongera, a political analyst, pointed out that Grace was behaving like the head of state and enjoying unfair campaign advantages over Vice President Joice Mujuru. He said Grace was taking advantage of the aged Mugabe to abuse state resources and virtually run the country without the people’s mandate.
Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Ignatius Chombo were among the minister seen at the rallies during working hours. Grace told party supporters and war veterans that if Mugabe did not fire Mujuru, she would do it herself.
