The young Mugabe and his four friends, including his security aide, were arrested in Harare on Wednesday on charges of robbery and the assault of a Zimbabwean anti-corruption officer.
They have been in custody since then.
Clad in khaki prison garb, the young Mugabe listened attentively as Magistrate Tinashe Kahudzai read out the ruling in the Harare Magistrate’s Court.
The case centres around two luxury vehicles – a Mercedes-Benz and a Lamborghini – which were impounded by officers from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on allegations that they were smuggled from South Africa.
The anti-corruption body accused the former president’s son of bringing the vehicles into Zimbabwe from South Africa without paying import duty.
“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has seized two high-end vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a Lamborghini, in Newlands in Harare. The vehicles were smuggled from South Africa. During the incident, one of our officers was assaulted, and we reported the matter to police,” Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission spokesperson Simiso Mlevu told journalists on Wednesday.
