Hosted by the Southern Africa Crises Management Agency (SACMA), the workshop encouraged participants to make use of the interactive ZimVoices platform.
The coordinator, Tichanzii Gandanga, explained that ZimVoices offers an opportunity to take part in governance and developmental processes at very little cost and provides the user with the ability to monitor and report poor service delivery, incompetence and corrupt office bearers.
Through reporting, sharing, monitoring and debating service delivery, citizens gain the capacity to call authorities and office bearers to account and make them answerable for their misuse of power and incompetence in fulfilling their duties.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Headman Chareka from Hurungwe West said the lack of effective interactive media in Hurungwe had resulted in his villagers becoming accustomed to living with poor service delivery.
“We embrace ICT’s and this workshop has been an eye opener for us. From now on my village will demand better service delivery from the relevant authorities,” said Chareka.
ZimVoices is a web-based, Ushahidi-inspired interactive platform for accessing information, monitoring, reporting, commenting and giving suggestions on key socio-economic, human rights and governance issues.
The web-based platform allows citizens to interact using social media tools like Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter etc. It is the brainchild of a consortium of five Civil Society Organisations
