ZANU (PF) scooped the two by-elections against the newly transformed National Constitutional Assembly party, NCA, which said it was testing its support base.

Barnwel Seremwe of ZANU (PF) won the Mount Darwin West parliamentary seat which fell vacant after the former Vice President Joice Mujuru was kicked out of government by President Robert Mugabe last December.

The Chirumanzu-Zibagwe seat went to Vice President Emmerson Mnangwa's wife Auxilia, who replaced her husband who was elevated to be the party and the country' second vice president.

MDC formations boycotted the weekend polls demanding electoral reforms.

CCJP Chairperson, Bishop Alexio Muchabaiwa, told reporters yesterday that they observed with concern the intimidation of voters by traditional leaders and some political party activists prior to the holding of the polls.

This he said impacted negatively on the credibility of the polls in both constituencies.

Muchabaiwa paid tribute to the opposition that boycotted the polls and encouraged the public to join them (opposition) in ‘pushing harder’ for reforms.

“We understand their concerns and we encourage them to partner with similar likeminded institutions to push harder for the necessary reforms and alignment of the past laws to the constitution”.

The MDC parties boycotted the polls and they have said they will only contest in any elections when there are reforms.

The Bishops said Zimbabwe’s elections will continue to be contested until reforms are implemented and warned the public to protest any if called under the current environment.

“Otherwise the forth coming 15 by-elections and the 2018 harmonized elections would just be a constitutional formality,” he said.
