The team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal courtesy of Takunda Mudzingwa and Kudakwashe who won gold medals in their respective age groups. Under 16 and under 20. Paddington Dzinzi got a silver medal in the under20 boys category while Kundai Murinda also won silver in the under 14 girls category.
Munyaradzi Thom of Mabvuku High school, HARARE won a bronze medal in the under 18 boys category. Bulawayo won the silver medal after Winning one gold medal and 3 silver medals, while Mash Central won a gold medal in the under 14 girls category and Wallace Chigwada of Mazowe High school won a bronze medal.
Victor Muchemwa won a gold medal for Bulawayo in the under 18 boys category while Sifiso Ncube who survived by the skin against Munyaradzi Thom of Mabvuku to force a draw by perpetual check in a mate in one position.
Bhekile Ndlovu came second in the under 16 category. Kudakwashe Zimbowa was tied third but he came fourth on bucholtz. Kudzai Mhandu the Glen Norah Knight who is now based in Masvingo at Gokomere Mission school came first in the under 14 boys category after winning 6 games and drawing 2 games.
He defeated Mpumelelo Moyo who was the favourite in the under 14 boys category. After drawing his first game one would think that he had missed it. He was to win all the remaining games and draw the last round. Mpumelelo drew against Tanaka Mukuma of Midlands before losing his final round game to Brendon Jobe of HARARE .
Linda Shaba Of Mash West and Cynthia Nyashanu of Midlands both won gold in the under 18 girls category after they were equal in everything. The points, butcholtz and even drew their game. So the tournament Director FA Clive Mpambela awarded the gold medal. Meanwhile IM Rodwell Makoto won The Cape Town Prestige chess tournament with 6/7 games of play ahead of IM Gillian Bwalya of Zambia who had the same points, but a lower bucholtz and he lost the game when the two played.
Fireworks and eruptions have already started at Holiday Inn hotel in HARARE where the prestige rated section is taking place. Gift Sithole beat IM Kelvin Chumfwa, while IM Gillian Bwalya lost to Elisha Chimbamu in a game which the storming of the barricades took place. There was a sucker punch of a sacrificial move which Elisha sacrificed his Queen on e6 with a forced mate to follow. What a beauty of a game it was!
