MDC-T  Provincial spokesperson, Munyaradzi Mutandavari said that the six MDC executives, Trynos Shava(secretary for
defence), Enock Msindo (Youth Deputy Secretary), Peter Hove (Zvishavane District Secretary), Bernard Sibanda ( Organising secretary, Ruishi Shoko(Youth Assembly National Executive member) and a Zvishavane District member only identified as Zvavamwe were jointly accused of insulting the authority of President Robert Mugabe.
“They were drinking beer at a Kubatana Bar near Pick n Pay Supermarket at around 1100hrs, where they are allegedly started singing songs mistaken to be insulting the person of the former liberation movement leader, R.G.Mugabe,” said Mutandavari. In what Mutandavari labelled a trumped up charge the six were said to have sang a song with the following words “Hatitongwi nemunhu anopfeka pamper” (we cannot continue ruled by a person wearing pampers).
The MDC-T senior official castigated the criminalisation of peaceful demonstrations by the police and soldiers citing it as abuse of citizens’ constitutional rights. “ We have already advised our lawyer Advocate Brian Dube about the unlawful arrest and hope he will bailout our party members. No amount of harassment and intimidation will deter our efforts aimed at setting free the suffering Zimbabwean mass,” said Mutandavari.
This comes at a time when fed up Zimbabweans massively expressed their anger over Zanu PF misrule and empty employment promises through protest dubbed ShutDown Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has taken interest in offering emergency legal services to the arrested, assisting the arbitrary arrested people not only in the defunct asbestos mining town but across the nation.
