In an update on 29 May, GMB said it received an additional US$5 million specifically for wheat payments, allowing it to fully settle the USD component of what was owed.
The board extended its thanks to the Treasury for helping mobilise the funds in time for the winter wheat season, which is now underway.
GMB Chief Executive Officer, Edison Badarai, also praised local farmers for their resilience and commitment, highlighting their key role in Zimbabwe’s push for food self-sufficiency through increased wheat production. He said:
GMB is grateful to the resilience and total commitment and dedication of our farmers as the country drives towards a wheat-based food self-sufficiency.
