BULAWAYO – Two suspected armed robbers have been killed in a shoot-out with police in Bulawayo, while four others have been arrested in connection with a robbery spree spanning 10 cases in the city and surrounding areas, police said on Thursday.

The latest development comes four days after businessman Tedious Rutanhira, 52, was shot dead during a robbery near a service station along JMN Nkomo Street between Fourth and Third Avenue in central Bulawayo.

Police said the shoot-out resulted in the deaths of Mehluli Ncube, 45, alias Mamba, and Muzi Richard Fambirai Moyo, 45.

Four other suspects — Shelton Jubane, 37, Charles Ndlovu, 52, Prince Chisale and Clive Ncube, 27 — were arrested.

“The suspects are linked to 10 cases of armed robbery in Bulawayo and surrounding areas,” national police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

Police said a detailed statement would be released on Friday.

Rutanhira was shot dead at around 11PM on September 14 shortly after closing his business and walking towards his son’s vehicle, which had arrived to collect him.

According to police, three unidentified suspects shot Rutanhira before fleeing with his bag containing US$10,000 and a pistol.
