Unite now to deliver killer punch: Chamisa

The ongoing Zanu (PF) succession battles present democratic forces and ordinary Zimbabweans with an opportunity to gang up against tyranny says Nelson Chamisa, former MDC-T organising secretary.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Zimbabwean this week, Chamisa said true democrats were obliged to seize the opportunity presented by the Zanu (PF) dog fight to liberate the country from the jaws of dictatorship.

“There cannot be a better opportunity to unite forces against tyranny than now. It is not time for democratic forces to define their differences but to unite and deal Zanu (PF) the killer punch as they fight among themselves,” he said.

Chamisa called on all democrats and citizens to join forces and fight the ‘unnecessary suffering’ among the people.

Asked about his loss at the recent congress and his political future, the charismatic politician said he would rather focus on the struggle for democracy for now, than speak about issues that might derail the people’s project.

“In politics it is best to speak through action than words and I will remain in the trenches until democracy is delivered to the people,” said Chamisa, vowing never to abandon the struggle for democracy.

He scoffed at rumours that he intended to join some other opposition party in protest at his defeat by Douglas Mwonzora in the race for secretary general.

Meanwhile, sources privy to the succession battles say the Mnangagwa camp is fighting to dismantle the Mujuru faction and kick her out of office at the elective congress next month.

If everything goes according to plan, the former Women’s League boss, Oppah Muchinguri will be nominated VP and second secretary at the congress.

“With Muchinguri as VP, next year Grace would impress upon President Robert Mugabe that their political, social and economic interests would be safe with Mnangagwa as head of state. She would advise him that his time was up and Mnangagwa should be the 2018 presidential candidate,” said a top Zanu (PF) politburo source close to Grace.
