Highlanders at the top

BULAWAYO - Premiership favourites Highlanders consolidated their position at the top of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) log table when they beat reigning champions 1-0 in a pulsating match at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday.
Highlanders underlined their hunger for success when they


made it nine out of nine matches after big CAPS defender Martin Goremusandu beat his own keeper Tsungai Mudzamiri after just 30 seconds into the match.
It was to be the only goal of the match as the two giants attacked each other’s goal no end. Both goalkeepers, Mudzamiri and Tapuwa Kapini for Highlanders made some crucial saves. Elsewhere, Zimbabwe Saints finally managed a win when they beat struggling Shabanie Mine 1-0 at Maglas Stadium in Kwekwe. Saints had been without a point since the start of the season.
Chapungu kept up the pressure on Highlanders when they beat Buymore 2-0 at Ascot Stadium in Gweru. At the Colliery, Hwange atoned for their 3-0 loss to CAPS last week to edge visiting Monomotapa 1-0.
Masvingo United, who have promised so much in the newspapers, failed to deliver on the pitch once again when they were humbled 3-1 by Shooting Stars at Rufaro Stadium.
On Saturday, giants Dynamos suffered yet another defeat when they went down 2-1 to Lancashire Steel at Baghdad Stadium in Kwekwe.
Railstars recorded their first win of the season when they thashed Black Rhinos 3-1 at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo. Motor Action, who are slowly finding their feet, beat poor Mwana Africa 2-0 a Trojan Stadium in Bindura. – ZimOnline
