Mhlauri quits Warriors

HARARE - Warrior's head coach Charles Mhlauri (36) has resigned after seeing advertisements for his job in the press. "When people advertise your post as vacant, then they are trying to say something. I will not re-apply," he told reporters angrily.
The CEO of the Zimbabwe Football Associat

ion (ZIFA), Jonathan Mashingaidze said the adverts had been placed as a follow up to the engagement of technical staff for all youth and women’s teams.
“While the board had earlier indicated its desire to retain the existing technical team for the senior men’s team, we have now resolved to invite applications for the position, including from the current national coach to ensure a transparent process to bring the most qualified individual for the job,” he said.
Observers query this U-turn by Zifa, which had pledged its full support for the national coach after Mhlauri took Zimbabwe to the Nations Cup finals and to within a whisker of qualifying for the World Cup.
Mhlauri is still technical director of CAPS United, which has been struggling this season. Since his appointment to Warriors in September 2004 he has led Zimbabwe to their second consecutive appearance at the African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt last January, where they lost to Nigeria and Senegal before pulling a surprise 2-1 win over World Cup qualifiers Ghana. – Sports reporter
