HARARE – Former log leaders for the first 11 weeks of this season, Harare United, lost another three points to Prison Guards Flame Lily (who are being coached by former Dynamos midfield maestro, Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa). They lost by two goals to nil at Tomlinson Depot on Saturday. Harare United came into this match smarting from a one-all draw to lowly Eiffel Flats last weekend. So far they have lost 12 points in their last five outings to drop to third position behind log leaders Lengthens, who drew one all with second on the log Gunners at Gwanzura stadium.
In the fourth place is police force team, Black Mambas, who are starting to gain ground after a bad spell at the beginning of the season. They beat Felfar Stars by one goal to nil at Morris Depot over the weekend, while the other defence forces team, Blue Jets, managed to cruise past winless Lulu Rovers by a goal to nil to move one place up the ladder.
Another Chegutu based team, Chegutu Pirates, were held to a one all draw by bottom of the log Golden Kopje in Chinhoyi. The Chinhoyi team managed to collect a point away from home when they held Douglas Warriors to a one all draw at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera.
Dorking massacred Chinhoyi-based side Karoi United by four goals to nil at Tsungubvi while ZPC Kariba continued with their winning ways at home by beating Grain tigers by three goals to one at Chaminuka Stadium.
Grain Tigers are still without a coach after the dismissal of their technical department headed by Fidelis Phiri a fortnight ago, leaving only the team manager who was rumoured to be also contemplating quitting.
So far the Northern Region league hasn’t encountered any serious abandonment of games as they now approach the season’s midway point. We have a break on the weekend of 8/9 July to pave way for the mid-season General Assembly for the Region. All the teams will not be active over the same weekend for the mid season break, matches will resume over the weekend of 15/16 July.
