Court to rule on hijack

JOHANNESBURG - A South African court will rule this week on whether to grant bail to a Zimbabwean student accused of attempting to hijack a South African Airways plane last month.
The 21-year old Zimbabwean, Tinashe Rioga, is facing charges of contravening aviation regulations after he attempted

to hijack the plane which was travelling from Cape Town to Johannesburg last month.
A South African magistrate, Suzette Marais, said she will hand down a ruling on Rioga’s bail application after hearing submissions from the student’s defence lawyer.
The state prosecutor is opposing the granting of bail, arguing that the accused was facing serious charges.
Rioga, a student at the University of Cape Town, allegedly seized a cabin crew member during flight and threatened to kill her unless he was allowed into the cockpit. He wanted to divert the plane to Maputo, Mozambique. But he was over-powered during the flight and was subsequently arrested. – ZimOnline
