French ace Thierry Henry starred as Arsenal chalked up a second successive win, 3-0 at home to Sheffield United, heading in the final goal after being involved in the first two. Liverpool beat visitors Tottenham 3-0, Mark Gonzales opening the scoring immediately after Tottenham’s Jermaine Jenas missed a sitter.
Georgios Samaras, the Greece striker, grabbed both goals in Manchester City’s 2-0 home win over struggling West Ham, while teenagers Gabriel Agbonlahor and Luke Moore were both on target as Aston Villa, revitalised under new manager Martin O’Neill, saw off visitors Charlton 2-0.
In the Scottish Premier, top-of-the-table Celtic won the big Glasgow derby 2-0 at home to Rangers, Denmark midfielder Thomas Gravesen heading the first goal. Falkirk won 1-0 at Hibernian in a tempestuous affair that saw both teams have two players red-carded.
