Zims petition SA police commissioner

JOHANNESBURG - About 100 Zimbabweans joined their fellow South Africans in a march campaign against crime before handing over a petition to the South African Police Service Commissioner, Danie Louw.
In part the petition reads: "People are shot or stabbed to death almost on a daily basis for the p

ossession of cell-phones and wallets.”
The petition also raised allegations of bribery and corruption in the South Africanpolice Service (SAPS).
One of the organizers of the event, Lookout Mabhanga Ncube, said bribery also takes place when illegal an illegal immigrant is apprehended by the police and he or she must “pay a certain amount of money in order to be released”.
He noted that Zimbabwean women are usually the easy target, especially in the morning when they go to work. According to Ncube students and small business are also targeted by these criminals.
The concerned Zimbabwe and South Africa campaign against crime group recommended that a free toll line be opened in Berea to enable people to report specific incidents of bribery and corruption.
The group also urged the police to involve the community members in the raiding of buildings harbouring criminals.
In accepting the petition, police commissioner Louw said he was prepared to work with the community in an effort to curb crime. – CAJ News
