A celebration of beauty and culture

LONDON - This year sees the third anniversary of Miss Southern Africa UK, which was founded in 2004 with the aim of appreciating the beauty and intelligence of Southern African women, and bringing together people with a common interest in African beauty and culture.
This year's event will be held

at the International Hotel in Docklands on October 27, coinciding with Black History Month as well as Africa Women’s month.
Last year saw the crowning of Miss Esther Banda from Zambia, who proved herself to be not only an African beauty, but also a true asset to her country. She used her title to raise awareness of the plight of children orphaned by Aids in her country, hosting several fund raising events for a Zambian charity.
The director, Conrad Mwanza, said: ”Most people look forward to this event as they get a chance to dress up in their cultural clothing and glamorous evening wear, as the dress code is cultural and evening wear.”
