Vigil Diary 21 October 2006

LONDON - Another lively Vigil this week in spite of the rain - with about 100 people attending.
Ephraim Tapa (chair of MDC-UK and a member of the Vigil team) addressed the Vigil, encouraging people to bring more people and do more demonstrations. Julius Mutyambizi-Dewa (MDC-UK Secretary and anot

her long-standing Vigil regular) also gave a speech in encouragement.
MDC Hertfordshire branch presented a Zimbabwe flag to the Vigil as a token of thanks for their support over the years. The Vigil brings together all who share its stated aim of campaigning for free and fair elections in Zimbabwe, and members from MDC Hertfordshire have been involved from the very beginning. Joshua Chigwangwa, Chair of MDC Herts, presented the flag and gave an uplifting talk encouraging us all to keep the fire burning for democracy in Zimbabwe.
The MDC Youth Chair joined forces with the Free-Zim Youth (the Brighton-based youth organisation who are also members of the Vigil Coalition), to call for action around the visit to the UK by South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma this week. All the youth will be working together to heed this call.
Patson brought a lively group from Leicester. Doubt and Ephraim played the drums as everyone joined in the usual lively singing and dancing and passers-by queued up to sign the Vigil petition.
