rector for Refugees Rights Project at Lawyers for Human Rights, Jacob van Garderen said, “The Department of Social Services has offered full payment of grants to disabled refugees after the court ruling. Disabled refugees are going to be considered to receive grants.”
Refugees living with HIV/AIDS and with CD4 count below 200 will now be considered for disability grants like South Africa citizens. In the past, refugees were turned away from government hospitals.
“It is right that they should consider all disabled people. We do not want to be on the streets – it is Mugabe who is forcing us,” said Timoti Mahora, originally from Zvishavane. – Own correspondent
