U-17 soccer team named (23-11-06)

HARARE - The national U-17 Zimbabwean soccer team was unveiled here this week by coach Rodwell Dhlakama.
The 17-member squad is currently en route to Johannesburg, where it will participate in the first leg of the African Youth Championships second round tie against South Africa at the Katlehong

Stadium on Saturday.
The coach told media representatives that he was confident of beating AmaJimbos “in their own backyard”.
“The good thing is that we are going into this match as underdogs but one thing for sure is that we have a bunch of talented youngsters who can surprise any team. We are very confident after good preparations in the run up to the match,” said the former Mutare Boys High coach. The return leg will be played in a fortnight.
South Africa is the strongest in the region so far, having demolished Botswana 9-1 on aggregate in the first round matches played in September and October.
Zimbabwe faced Reunion in the same round of qualifiers. After drawing 1-1 at home, the two teams also drew 1-1 in the second leg thus forcing the tie into a penalty shoot-out that Zimbabwe won 4-2.
Amajimbos head coach Serame Letsoaka said his team faced a problem in that many players were busy writing exams. “We have agreed that six of our players will shuttle back and forth between writing their exams and training with the team. These players won’t be staying at the hotel with us but will join us for our training sessions,” he said.
The finals of the competition will be played in Togo next year during March.
