JOHANNESBURG - The records of hundreds of Zimbabwe asylum seekers in South Africa have gone missing at Rosettenville Home Affairs Refugee Centre - a move described as sabotage by many Zimbabweans.
Many have been denied access to their papers and asylum permits held at the off

ices for several months.
Analysts say the centre is bent on frustrating asylum seekers and accuse the SA government of working hand in hand with the Mugabe regime, which is involved in a witch-hunt for Zimbabweans living in South Africa.
More than 50 Zimbabweans have been arrested by the police after Home Affairs failed to issue them with new asylum papers. Five have been deported as they could not produce their original papers.
For the past seven months, the Department of Home Affairs has claimed that its computers were not working or the data had been lost.
In a telephone interview an official identified as Nkozwana said: “The computers are down and we cannot issue new asylum papers.” When pressed for more details he retorted “If you want to interrogate me, ask the minister!”
This reporter witnessed many asylum seekers milling around the offices this week and being chased away by the security guards. One official said “The records are missing and we are waiting for our head office in Pretoria to send the papers.”
