MAFIKENG – Two-time Vodacom Confederation of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) southern African winners, Zimbabwe, are favourites to win this year’s Under-20 soccer tournament being played at Mafikeng.



In the opening matches on Friday, Zimbabwe brushed aside the regional lightweights, Swaziland, whom they thrashed 5-0 to go on top of the Group “B” log with the hosts South Africa beating Namibia 3-1.



South Africa are lying second on the log with Zimbabwe maintaining their pole position by virtue of goal aggregate and goal difference.



The Zimbabwe Young Warriors first won the COSAFA Youth Championship in 2002 and 2003 respectively with Angola claiming the honours once in 2001.


The 2006 COSAFA Under-20 youth championships is being contested by full Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional member states, who comprise Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabw
